When it's love, it never varies

Description

Cartier Love ring from the 1990s in 18-carat white gold composed of a flat band decorated with engraved screw motifs.

Current new price: €2,250

An iconic piece from the Maison Cartier, a unisex piece whose origin evokes a strong symbolism: that of fidelity and love. The main characteristic of the Love ring is the image of a piece closed by screws that preserves your love: "a physical act of commitment, which seals love and promises fidelity," as Vivienne Becker explains in Cipullo: Making Jewelry Modern (Assouline). Thus, the Love ring referred to a unique love that "sealed" the special relationship between two lovers.

Why did Françoise choose it?

When it was first created, the Love bracelet introduced a new way to wear pieces on the wrist. The jewelry pieces derived from it, with their simple, clean lines, complement any outfit for any occasion.

Beyond its iconic aspect, Françoise likes to democratize the wearing of jewelry, whether set or, as here, only in gold, by offering pieces that can be worn whenever you want.

She is also not indifferent to the symbolism of this Love ring. Each piece of jewelry is unique and so is each story of the person who wears it. Even if it is a best-seller, this jewel will be yours.

History

The Love bracelet was first designed by Italian goldsmith Aldo Cipullo (1936-1984) in 1969. The original idea was to enclose memories of past relationships in a single object. While the first version was in gilded silver, subsequent versions were quickly released in yellow, white, and rose gold, sometimes set with diamonds. The collection was expanded to include rings, earrings, charms, and cufflinks in 1978.

At the launch, Cartier sent the bracelet to twenty-five famous couples, including Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant and Dyan Cannon, and Ali MacGraw and Steve McQueen. Will you be the next to write your story into this iconic collection?
