The Ceinture you will never tire of
Description
A square case with bevelled edges and a "gadrooned" crown guard, there is no doubt, this is a Ceinture. Square and flat, this model is as elegant as it is comfortable on the wrist. Although slim, the case’s gadroon (the golden wave running along the case) gives the Ceinture a real presence on the wrist.
This Ceinture is presented in its most traditional version, faithful to Cartier’s history, featuring a mechanical movement and a dial signed "Paris".
It is fitted with a black alligator leather strap and a Cartier gold-plated pin buckle.
How to wear it?
This Ceinture is perfect for any occasion. A dress watch that is a pleasure to wear and to admire. It is particularly well suited to everyday life, equally appropriate for work or evening wear. Thanks to its flat lines, it sits gently on the wrist and follows its natural shape. A highly flattering watch that offers a change from the classic Tank Louis Cartier. A slightly smaller size than the standard model.
It is an iconic Cartier design, of great elegance, with particularly well-balanced dial proportions. This smaller version allows the watch to become almost jewellery-like. A piece you do not often see and one you will not want to part with.
However, it must not be forgotten that it needs to be wound. Some may find this tedious in daily use, but Françoise particularly enjoys this short, almost tactile moment with her watch each morning.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Because it is an iconic Cartier model of great elegance, with a particularly well-proportioned dial. Françoise considers the Ceinture one of the most comfortable Cartier watches to wear, thanks to its slim, square case.
Françoise often offers quartz watches and highlights their everyday convenience, but her passion for horology sometimes takes over, leading her to wear a "true" mechanical watch for several weeks, one that must be wound every morning.
History
The Cartier Ceinture is an iconic yet relatively discreet shape within the Maison’s collection, created in 1927 in the context of the Art Deco movement. Its name comes from its square case with cut corners, evoking a belt buckle. It is particularly distinguished by its crown integrated into the case, an aesthetic innovation that preserves the watch’s perfect symmetry.
After a first limited production period, it was reintroduced in 1973 as part of Cartier’s effort to revive its historic designs. Models from this era, particularly those featuring the famous "Paris" dials, are now among the most sought-after by collectors.
Produced mainly in yellow gold and powered by Swiss manual-winding mechanical movements, the Ceinture is defined by its understated elegance, refined proportions, and distinctive shaped-watch design. Although less well known than the Santos or the Tank, it is regarded as a true connoisseur’s timepiece, embodying the creative boldness and aesthetic refinement that defined Cartier throughout the 20th century.
