Cartier must: make lines with a circle.
Description
The Cartier "Colisée" presents a bold new look compared to the Cartier codes, which excelled in shaped watches. Original with its round case and integrated horizontal attachments, it can be an alternative to the more classic and simple models of Cartier.
The Colisée was available in the classic range (in solid gold), and in the Must range. Here, we have the perfect piece to illustrate the Must range: a vermeil case (gold-plated silver), a budget lower than the classic range and a very original dial. A black lacquered dial with gold hands and inscriptions: only the Roman numerals appear at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, the other hours being indicated by triangles.
The strap on the watch needs to be replaced: the change is included in the price and Françoise will be happy to help you choose your new custom strap.
How to wear it?
Françoise particularly likes the geometric spirit of this watch: a rounded case and horizontal stretchers that seem to simply rest on the watch. Its compact size despite its rather striking design makes it a perfect ally for any outfit: on a black strap to tone it down or a colored one to highlight it.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Françoise loves the Colisée range, which is nevertheless shunned by many collectors. The positive aspect of this injustice in Françoise's eyes is that it makes it a Cartier that you don't see on every wrist! This version with a black dial combined with gold is particularly elegant.
History
The "Must de Cartier" collection was launched in 1973 by Robert Hocq and Alain-Dominique Perrin, appointed general manager of this new entity.
This creative line not only allowed the Maison Cartier to expand its offer but also to offer a more accessible and offbeat range. The goal was clear : bringing Cartier to younger customers with smaller prices, while maintaining La Maison's codes.
After lighters, pens and even leather goods, it was the turn of the Must watch to make its appearance in 1976/77. The gold-plated Tank was the first to make its debut with the mention "Must de Cartier" and the two "C"s on the dial. Although the first models were made with a manual movement, quartz quickly took hold on these everyday and easy-to-wear watches.
Unlike Cartier watches in yellow gold, the Must line most often in vermeil (gold plating on silver) or steel, and rarely in solid silver, offer a very wide variety of cases and dials. Sometimes colorful, sometimes embellished with geometric patterns, these designs give a second life to classic models.
