Description

Françoise is always amazed to see the variations Cartier is capable of around the same design! The Maison often likes to play with the shapes, colors, or sizes of a model while maintaining its DNA. Here we have another example. Cartier has managed to keep the geometric aspect and codes of the Santos, while transitioning from a square to a round shape.

We find the gold insert riveted to a steel case that made the Santos successful in the 1980s. For this round model, Cartier plays on symmetry by distributing the rivets on the insert in a slightly uneven way.

History

Like the Tank, the Santos is one of Cartier's mythical models. It was designed in 1904 by Louis Cartier for his aviator friend Alberto Santos-Dumont. A pioneering watch, not only for aviation but also in the history of watchmaking: it was the first men's wrist watch, commercialized in 1911. In the 1980s, the line split into the Santos-Dumont, which remained faithful to the original design, and the Santos, which gained modernity with its integrated bracelet. Even today, the Cartier Santos is available in different versions and continues to enjoy undeniable success!
