Classicism and timelessness
Description
A watch with classic, elegant and timeless lines? This 18-carat yellow gold Chopard watch is a perfect illustration.
It may feel quite familiar. Indeed, the shape of its case recalls the iconic Tank Louis Cartier: a square case, extended lateral brancards, Roman numerals and a railway minute track. On this Chopard, however, the dial—like a disc of gold—does not follow the shape of the case, creating a subtle interplay between sharp lines and soft curves. A watch that has lost none of its charm over the years. The dial is signed Chopard Genève and fitted with slender hands, further enhancing its refined character.
This watch is powered by a manual-winding mechanical movement, requiring daily winding.
A historical detail makes this piece all the more distinctive. From the 1960s to the 1990s, it was common to find the initials “L.U.C.” engraved on the crown—sometimes also on the dial and/or the movement—of Chopard watches. This is a tribute to Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the Maison’s founder, and highlights its heritage.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Françoise is drawn to timeless and elegant pieces—those not seen on every wrist and too often overlooked. This Chopard watch is the perfect alternative to the Tank Louis Cartier, for those who appreciate classic watches with a twist. A refined piece designed for everyday wear. Its clean lines give it a timeless allure that complements any style.
History
Founded in 1860 in Sonvilier (Switzerland) by Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the Maison initially dedicated itself to the creation of precision watches. From the outset, Chopard occasionally used the initials “L.U.C.” to sign its timepieces, a direct reference to its founder and to the identity of the Maison.
Over the decades, Chopard built an international reputation before being acquired in 1963 by the Scheufele family, becoming a renowned Maison of High Jewellery and Watchmaking.
From the 1970s onwards, emblematic collections emerged, such as Happy Diamonds. In 1996, Chopard reached a major milestone with the creation of its Fleurier manufacture, which gave rise to the L.U.C. line, dedicated to high-end mechanical movements.
Today, Chopard is recognised both for its jewellery creations and its in-house movements, combining tradition with technical innovation.
