Description
A wristwatch like you rarely see. A piece that combines originality and exclusivity. As its name suggests, it is worn like a bracelet, wrapped around the wrist thanks to the double leather wrap.
A yellow gold case is attached to a black leather strap: on one side the dial of the watch, on the other, a circle of malachite. A piece that you can wear as much as a watch as as a piece of jewelry. The design of this watch plays with shapes and movement, all in roundness, except for the dial with its elegant stick indexes and its hands enhanced with a black border. The mention of the brand remains discreet and leaves its place to the design of the piece.
This is a mechanical movement watch. The current strap is suitable for a small wrist (13-14 cm), unless you shorten it to only fit around the wrist.
Why did Françoise choose it?
When you mention Maison Mauboussin, it is not necessarily the exceptional pieces created by the jeweler, particularly during the 1920s-1930s, that come to mind. Mauboussin is one of those Maisons which have experienced a real turning point in their history. Françoise, and it is no longer a secret, seeks to bring back the sometimes forgotten watches of the past. This wristwatch is a perfect example! She had never had the opportunity to wear something similar. And yet, what originality! This is not the watch you will come across every day...
Also, malachite is one of the ornamental stones that Françoise particularly likes.
History
Maison Mauboussin, founded in 1827 by Monsieur Rocher quickly became “Maison Noury” when his successor, Jean-Baptiste Noury took over the management of the workshop. He then hired his nephew Georges Mauboussin as an apprentice. Later, in 1883, he took over the management of the workshop and it was in 1922 that he gave his name to the jewelry house. Located in the Opéra Garnier district like all the big ones, Mauboussin then became a Maison with avant-garde creations for prestigious international clients: rue de Choiseul in 1923, place Vendôme in 1946. In 1928, branches were opened in New York, London and Buenos Aires, under the responsibility of Pierre Mauboussin, son of Georges.
The Maison participated in numerous international exhibitions, which earned Georges Mauboussin the Legion of Honor. The Maison remains a family affair since his son Pierre Mauboussin succeeds him and will leave his place to Marcel Goulet (1934), nephew of Jean-Baptiste Noury, who will work with his son (1943).
In 1955, a new “boutique” presented mass-produced jewelry in order to reach a wider clientele.
During the 1960s, the Maison turned to New York with creations rich in precious and fine colored stones, cut, engraved or cabochon, a new freedom of creation and color assortments.
From the 80s to the 2000s, Jean Goulet-Mauboussin successively trained his two sons to take over from him. A new spirit then appears: more refined, simplified, minimalist, rounded shapes.
It was in 1994 that Maison Mauboussin truly became a watchmaker, under the direction of Alain Mauboussin and Richard Mille: Swiss technicality, French creativity, sporty and more formal versions, for men and women.
