A slightly different legend remains a legend
Description
How could one speak of Cartier without thinking of the Baignoire model? Entirely defined by elegance, voluptuousness and delicacy, the Cartier Baignoire alone embodies femininity and the Cartier identity. It also showcases the Maison’s technical mastery in creating a movement that fits seamlessly within an oval case.
But is this truly the Baignoire, the one you see on everyone’s wrists ? No! This is Baignoire known as a "double godron", meaning the case features two raised ridges. This subtle detail gives the watch its distinct character and rarity. In keeping with Cartier’s pure horological spirit, it is powered by a mechanical movement.
Naturally, one will notice the "Paris" signature on both dial and case, adding considerable charm and appealing to connoisseurs, as it indicates exclusive Parisian production.
The watch is fitted with a black calfskin leather strap and a Cartier gold-plated pin buckle.
How to wear it?
In any circumstance, it will undoubtedly bring a touch of elegance to your outfit. A refined, rounded timepiece, it is best suited to more formal attire. However, it remains a daily watch, provided one accepts the need to wind it each day. Françoise appreciates this physical, almost intimate interaction with a watch; some consider it too demanding to choose a mechanical watch for everyday wear.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Because the Baignoire is an iconic shape within the Cartier Maison. A watch worn over the years by many women: women of style, women of character, women who are remembered.
But also, and perhaps above all, because this "double godron" version carries an undeniable twist. Rarer, visually slimmer on the wrist (as the case appears refined by the two raised ridges), and perhaps more intricate, this Baignoire is simply sublime.
Paris-born and Paris at heart, Françoise has a particular affinity for Cartier watches signed "Paris".
History
From Catherine Deneuve to Jeanne Moreau and Romy Schneider, the Cartier Baignoire continues to enchant.
Although Louis Cartier had already introduced an elongated watch design in the early 1900s, the iconic model we know today was born in 1958 in Cartier’s Paris workshops. A watch with feminine, sensual lines and an innovative, creative spirit. A few years later, the Baignoire "Allongée" appeared in the London studios.
While the gold "godrons" case has preserved its rounded design, it has evolved over time (as seen here with the "double godron"), as has the dial, sometimes featuring Roman numerals, sometimes Arabic numerals. An inherently elegant timepiece that transcends time without ever losing its aura.
