Dive back into the legend
Description
How could one evoke Cartier without thinking of the Baignoire? All elegance, sensuality and delicacy, the Cartier Baignoire embodies both femininity and the Cartier identity. It also illustrates the technical mastery of the Maison in crafting a mechanism that fits perfectly within an oval case.
Rounded all-gold case, white dial, black Roman numerals and blued hands: all the defining codes of the Cartier Baignoire are present. Yet here, these codes are refreshed through a few modern touches. The case edges are slightly more pronounced, the numerals more assertive. The iridescent dial has more presence than the earlier “simply white” versions. And finally, yellow gold completes the watch: a contemporary interpretation of a timeless classic.
How to wear it?
In any situation, it will undoubtedly be the elegant finishing touch to your outfit. A pared-back watch with clean, confident lines, it pairs beautifully with more formal attire. Yet it remains a true everyday piece, easy to slip under a shirt or jacket cuff, or worn proudly on a bare wrist.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Because the Baignoire is one of Cartier’s most iconic shaped watches, a piece worn by countless women over the years: women with distinctive style, women of character, women we remember.
Françoise often gravitates toward vintage watches, but she also knows how to fall in love with a more contemporary model, as she did here.
History
From Catherine Deneuve to Jeanne Moreau and Romy Schneider, the Cartier Baignoire has never ceased to captivate.
Although Louis Cartier had already introduced an elongated watch design in the early 1900s, the emblematic model we know today was born in 1958 in Cartier’s Paris workshops. A watch with feminine, sensual lines, innovative and creative in its spirit. A few years later, the elongated Baignoire emerged from the London studios.
While the gold godron case has preserved its signature rounded silhouette, it has offered various subtle evolutions over the years, just like the dial itself, sometimes adorned with Roman numerals, sometimes with Arabic ones. An inherently elegant watch that has crossed decades without losing any of its allure.
