Diving back into the legend
Description
How can one evoke Cartier without thinking of the Cartier Baignoire? Defined by elegance, sensuality and delicacy, the Baignoire alone embodies femininity and the Cartier identity. It also reflects the Maison’s technical mastery in creating a movement that fits seamlessly within an oval case.
A fully rounded gold case, white dial, black numerals and blued steel hands, every hallmark of the Cartier Baignoire is present. Yet here, these codes are subtly reinterpreted. The case angles are slightly more pronounced, the numerals more assertive. The iridescent dial offers greater presence than earlier, purely white dials. And then, rose gold. Warmer than yellow gold, yet more understated, it completes and elevates this evolution of an iconic design.
This Baignoire is accompanied by its Cartier pouch, along with its full service invoice from Cartier dated February 2026. It is fitted with a black calfskin strap and an 18-carat rose gold Cartier pin buckle.
How to wear it?
In any setting, it will undoubtedly bring a touch of elegance to your look. A refined watch with clean, defined lines, it naturally complements more formal attire. Yet it remains perfectly suited to everyday wear, easily slipped beneath a shirt cuff or jacket sleeve, or worn proudly on a bare wrist.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Because the Baignoire is one of Cartier’s most emblematic shaped watches. A model worn by many remarkable women over the years, women of style, of character, and of lasting presence.
Françoise often favours vintage pieces, yet she also knows how to be won over by a more contemporary model, as is the case here. This rose gold version immediately captured her attention and her heart.
History
From Catherine Deneuve to Jeanne Moreau and Romy Schneider, the Cartier Baignoire has never ceased to captivate.
Although Louis Cartier had already introduced elongated watch designs in the early 1900s, the iconic model we know today was born in 1958 in the Paris workshops of Cartier. A watch with feminine, sensual lines, innovative and creative in spirit. A few years later, the elongated Baignoire appeared in the London workshops.
While the gold gadrooned case has retained its rounded form, it has evolved through subtle variations over the years, as has the dial, sometimes featuring Roman numerals, sometimes Arabic numerals. An intrinsically elegant timepiece, it continues to transcend time without ever losing its aura.
