Description
A square case with bevelled edges, the protective godron encircling the crown — there is no doubt, this is indeed a Ceinture. Square and slim, this model is as elegant as it is comfortable on the wrist. Even though it is thin, the godron along the case (the wave of gold running around it) gives the Ceinture real presence when worn.
This Ceinture is presented here in its most traditional form, the one truest to Cartier’s heritage, with a manual-winding movement.
How to wear it?
This Ceinture is perfect in every circumstance. A refined watch that is a pleasure to wear and to admire. It is particularly suited to everyday life, ideal at work as well as in the evening. With its flat profile, it rests delicately on the wrist and follows its natural curve. A very flattering watch that offers an elegant alternative to the classic Tank Louis Cartier.
However, one must remember to wind it! Some may find this daily ritual tedious, yet Françoise cherishes this brief, almost physical moment with her watch each morning.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Because it is an emblematic Cartier model of great elegance, and its dial is beautifully proportioned. Françoise considers the Ceinture to be one of the most comfortable Cartier watches to wear, thanks to its thin, square case.
Françoise often recommends quartz watches for their ease of use in daily life, but her passion for watchmaking sometimes takes over, leading her to wear, for several weeks, a “true” manual watch that must be wound every day.
History
The Ceinture first appeared around 1937 at Cartier, but it was truly commercialised under this name in the 1970s, a period during which Cartier multiplied graphic and architectural shapes. It is believed to belong to the 1973 Louis Cartier Collection, a selection of the great watch designs of the 20th century. Its square silhouette with bevelled corners evokes a belt buckle: a geometric, elegant and daring design, typical of this creative era.
Produced in relatively limited quantities, the Ceinture remains one of Cartier’s most discreet and confidential models, a connoisseur’s watch, instantly recognisable for its subtle architecture and its iconic dial.
