Vendôme Trinity: 2 great classics on a budget

Description

The Vendôme by Cartier? As elegant and timeless as the Place itself. Its perfectly rounded case—almost uninterrupted—echoes the purest expression of watch design. The strap, attached to the case by fine horizontal lugs, appears to hold the watch with remarkable lightness.

Alongside Cartier’s enduring watchmaking codes, railway minute track, blued steel hands and a cabochon-set crown, this model also incorporates the signature elements of the Trinity line. The union of three golds symbolises three cardinal values: rose gold for love, yellow gold for fidelity, and white gold for friendship.

With this Must model, one gains access to two Cartier classics at a more accessible price point than solid gold versions, which, incidentally, never feature such a distinctive dial. With its 30 mm diameter, it offers a beautiful presence on the wrist while remaining slim and comfortable.

Its burgundy alligator Cartier strap is fitted with a gold-plated Cartier pin buckle.

This watch is accompanied by its original 1988 certificate and presentation box.

Why did Françoise choose it?

Much like the Place from which it takes its name, the Cartier Vendôme evokes understated luxury. A discreet model with refined, delicate lines, one we trust entirely.

It also offers a rare opportunity to wear a round Cartier watch, within a Maison better known for its shaped designs.

Françoise is particularly fond of the Must line, for its more relaxed and youthful interpretation of Cartier watchmaking. She also enjoys presenting more accessible alternatives to the classic solid gold models. This larger size can be worn equally well on both masculine and feminine wrists.

And for those who know her well, Françoise’s deep appreciation for the Trinity line is unmistakable, here subtly echoed through the three gold tones on the dial.

History

As early as 1924, Louis Cartier created the Trinity ring, composed of three interwoven bands of gold. This interplay of tones would go on to inspire many of the Maison’s creations, jewellery, pens, lighters, and occasionally watches.

In 1934, Louis Cartier patented a new system for attaching leather straps: on each side, a horizontal bar would slot into a central loop fixed to the case.

The Cartier Vendôme was introduced around 1973, as a tribute to the Parisian square of the same name, a historic meeting place for jewellers and watchmakers. Its two lugs are said to evoke the two streets leading to Place Vendôme: Rue de la Paix and Rue de Castiglione.

During the same period, Cartier launched the Must line in gold-plated silver, offering the Maison’s iconic designs at more accessible price points, particularly appealing to a younger audience.
