Head-spinning elliptical
Description
Not round, not quite oval, the Ellipse from Patek Philippe has become a must-have in watchmaking since its creation.
The Ellipse is instantly recognizable thanks to its distinctive lines. First, the elliptical case, all finesse, from which the model takes its name. A design whose proportions are based on the "golden ratio," an ancient mathematical formula of Euclid respecting the idea of aesthetics thanks to a certain ratio.
Manufactured by the dial maker Singer, the dial, moreover, continues this quest for elegance. It is refined, here in a deep blue whose rays radiate from the two thin central hands. Only minimalist baton indexes indicate the hours. Below 12 o'clock is the discreet white inscription Patek Philippe GENÈVE. A visual harmony is thus created.
It finally continues at the bracelet attachments and especially at the level of the buckle, folding here, so the design follows that of the case.
A watch with a timeless, unisex design that never ceases to seduce and charm.
Why did Françoise choose it?
The model and its reputation speak for themselves. Françoise was keen to offer such a piece in her collection, especially with such an elegant blue dial.
This version features its original leather strap and yellow gold folding clasp, which was a natural factor in choosing this Ellipse. This version also features a date display, which is still very discreet yet practical, like the quartz movement.
It's a visually harmonious watch, both in the hand and on the wrist. Try it on and you'll love it. An everyday watch that you'd see worn by a woman as well as a man.
History
The Ellipse model was introduced by Patek Philippe in 1968. It was the hand-wound reference 3548. Its lines were bold for the time and its original style was captivating. A second reference was launched in 1977, the 3738, and a third quickly followed, the 5738, which had a larger case.
A model still offered by Patek Philippe that has undergone numerous variations over the years (more than 60 references): the dial comes in different colors, sometimes calling on the Maison's Métiers d'Art. The case is found in yellow gold, white gold, and platinum. Thus, it is one of the oldest lines after the Calatrava at Patek Philippe.
