When Jaeger meets Pierre Cardin: playing with codes
Description
This watch designed by Pierre Cardin is the perfect illustration of the audacity and imagination of the French designer. Designed for Jaeger, it breaks with the traditional stylistic codes of watchmaking. It is a design object in lucite and metal that is worn on the wrist, witness to an era and the extravagance that Cardin could demonstrate: Parisian evenings, Courrèges skirts, colorful patterns... It is worn on a wide white bracelet in matte or shiny leather. Its bright red has numerous reflections creating plays of light which enhance the volumes of the watch, characteristic of the 1970s, undoubtedly evoking the spatial spirit from which the collection comes.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Françoise likes these slightly crazy models that are out of the ordinary. Completely unique pieces that you won't see elsewhere and whose design breaks free from what you know. Watches that, although vintage, seem futuristic. It is undoubtedly a watch that bears witness to its era. A rare model that will delight collectors and lovers of unusual watches, with Jaeger quality of course. A timeless piece, typical of the 1970s lines, which must certainly be worn with assertive style. It would go very well with a casual but sober outfit to contrast with it.
History
Launched from 1971 to 1973, the Espace collection marks the collaboration between designer Pierre Cardin and watchmaker Jaeger. It would be inspired by space expeditions, notably that of Yuri Gagarin in 1961. The watches were then made of non-precious materials such as metal, lucite, crystals, etc. All have been designed with a manual movement and present designs playing on geometric volumes whose lines are borrowed from the space universe.
