Description
OYSTER PERPETUAL : 2 of the oldest words in the Rolex universe. 2 words seen so often on watches that we no longer read them. 2 words that sum up the entire philosophy of Rolex: Oyster for its case as watertight as an oyster, and Perpetual because the automatic movement makes the watch tick as long as it is worn. Rolex essence is also captured here aesthetically: a plain deep anthracite dial, a white gold bezel to add femininity, and the Jubilee bracelet.
How to wear it?
Françoise likes a watch to be simple and efficient: nothing is too much, everything is as simple as perfectly executed. So Françoise will match her outfit to this common thread: clothes that are well cut, without extravagance. Pants and a sweater? A blouse over a skirt?
Due to its 45+ years old, don't take the OYSTER writing too seriously and take it for a swim !
Why did Françoise choose it ?
When Françoise chooses a Rolex, she usually pick one from the 90s, for its perfect balance between reliability (especially water resistance) and vintage look. But Françoise sometimes fall in love... This was the case here with this tiny Rolex: so simple, so perfect, in such a beautiful condition. The anthracite sunburst dial and its palette of shades were perhaps the coup de grace.
History
The Oyster Perpetual is the starting point of the Rolex saga. It is indeed the name of the first automatic and waterproof watch, released in 1931. This range will transform the name of Rolex, a young brand at the time, and will crown it as the watchmaker of technical and sporting exploits. Since then, most Rolex watches bear the Oyster Perpetual inscription in addition to their "range" name (Submariner, Explorer, DateJust...) to recall this original filiation. To choose a simple "Oyster Perpetual" is coming back to the roots.
